Summary of Responsibilities
The Sheboygan County Communications Center is the direct link between citizens and the county’s emergency response services as we provide 24-hour dispatching for all law, fire, and EMS agencies within Sheboygan County.
The Sheboygan County Communications Center merged with the City of Sheboygan dispatch center January 1, 2016.
Together we serve 13 cities and villages within Sheboygan County and dispatch for 24 fire departments, 7 ambulance services, and 12 first responder units. We also coordinate emergency responses from the county SWAT Team, Sheboygan Police Department ERT Team, Dive Team, and aeromedical services, such as Flight for Life. Along with the Sheriff’s Department, we dispatch for the City of Sheboygan, Sheboygan Falls, Plymouth, Kohler, Elkhart Lake, and Cascade Police Departments. Our Communications Center is also the designated dispatch center for Sheboygan County’s MABAS Division 113, which is part of a state-wide mutual aid system for obtaining resources for large-scale emergencies.
The center is located on the first floor of the Sheriff’s Office and is staffed by a total of 24 full-time dispatchers and four full time dispatch supervisors who handle all emergency 911 calls, as well as non-emergency calls for service. Among a variety of other responsibilities dispatchers are required to monitor multiple radio frequencies simultaneously, track officer’s activities in the field, prioritize calls and dispatch appropriate units, and receive and communicate severe weather information.
The dispatchers also retrieve and enter information in state and federal databases, such as wanted or missing persons or stolen vehicles and property. Our dispatchers work eight hour shifts with a 5/2, 5/3 rotational schedule. We require a minimum of 4-5 dispatchers on duty per shift, depending upon the shift.
