In 2011 and 2012, the Planning & Conservation Department was quite involved in the dredging and habitat restoration projects that took place on the Sheboygan River. The project was a great collaboration among many different public and private entities and stakeholders. After 30 years and countless meetings and negotiations, Sheboygan County now has a cleaner, deeper river ripe for recreation, development, and stewardship.

Project partners include, but are not limited to: EPA, WDNR, City of Sheboygan, County of Sheboygan, WPS, WisDOT, USGS, UFWS, UW-EX, Tecumseh, Pollution Risk Services, Ryba-Terra & Environment Quality Management.

Funding for the approximately $100 million project was provided by the EPA Superfund program, EPA Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, WDNR, WisDOT, City of Sheboygan, Sheboygan County, and responsible parties.
