Summary of Coalition Initiatives:
Connections: A Resource for Family Caregivers, is a quarterly newsletter produced by the coalition. The goal of the newsletter is to promote the coalition, educate caregivers, share information about future events and to provide a forum for caregivers and organization members. 2015 Champions who Care:
The Family Caregivers Coalition in Sheboygan County was one of eight coalitions in the United States to receive a grant from the National Alliance for Caregiving with support from Pfizer, to bring awareness to the challenges faced by employed family caregivers. Grant money was used to host a breakfast event on January 30th at The Bull at Pinehurst Farms. This event brought together over 50 leaders of local companies and lawmakers to rally behind specific caregiving issues to advocate for change. Thanks to family caregivers, Lynn Mukavitz, Jeanette Gast, Marjean Mueller, and Paula Strains for sharing their caregiving stories. Download caregiving stories. 2015 Caregivers Connect:
Meet with other family caregivers in an informal, social environment to learn practical tips on a variety of topics that will assist you to better meet the physical, emotional, financial and spiritual challenges of caregiving. All events are held at the Aging & Disability Resource Center at 650 Forest Avenue, Sheboygan Falls, WI 53085. Call (920) 467-4100 for more information or to register. All events are free. 2015 Carefree Cafe:
The 2010 family caregiver assessment revealed that many caregivers grieve the loss of being able to participate in social activities with their care recipient and their extended families. The Carefree Cafe initiative is an effort to meet this need. Carefree Cafe is a social event for caregivers, care recipients and friends and extended family. The theme for the 2015 Carefree Cafe` is Dancing with Stars. This event will be held at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center, 608 New York Avenue in Sheboygan on Tuesday June 30, 2015 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. If you are a family caregiver, Be a Star! Put on your dancing shoes and prepare to spend an enchanted afternoon on the dance floor. Enjoy a light meal and seasonal drinks, view a demonstration, and then learn a few steps with ballroom dance instructor Susan Alby. Dance from your chair, dance anywhere, or don't dance at all and come have a ball! Download registration form
2015 Annual Retreat for Family Caregivers: Fishing Fun:
The 2015 annual retreat for family caregivers will be held at River Park in Sheboygan Falls on Thursday September 10th from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. A "Learning to Fish" class will be presented by a member of the Between the Lakes Muskies, Inc. Club followed by an opportunity to fish in River Park. No fishing license is required as a special waiver has been granted by the Department of Natural Resources for the day. A picnic lunch will be provided compliments of Pine Haven Christian Communities.
This special day is sponsored by the Family Caregivers Coalition in Sheboygan County as part of a mission to support and value family caregivers. Partner organizations for this event are the Aging & Disability Resource Center, HomeCare Health Services and Pine Haven Christian Communities.
